Film Edits

I'm sure it's no surprise that I enjoy stalking other photographers and drooling over their beautiful images and editing styles. Well recently I decided I really wanted to figure out what these people are doing and so after some googling I decided I wanted to try out edits that emulate old film images. VSCO cam is the new thing for presets of this style, but A. I don't want to pay B. I want to learn what I'm doing so I can make fine adjustments to get things just right.
I found a few tutorials and youtube videos and decided to give it a quick try tonight.
So hopefully these images look a bit more like some slightly grainy film images.

The fish one is my favorite. I think I over sharpened the first one and the last one just doesn't seem to work well with the film color profile I used.
But like I said, this was my first try, just a quick experiment to see how all the layers flow together.
I think it's a good start.

Dusting things off

I finally went through some folders of my photographs. Found five that I felt like editing.

It's been a while.

Definitely my favorite. Chewie enjoying playing in the snow at the dog park this past winter. What a fluff.

Belated Memorial Day Weekend

Over Memorial Day weekend I was lucky enough to have a friend invite me to a family member's house to camp out in the backyard and hang out around the pool. It was Chewie's first time experiencing a body of water larger than the few inches that usually sit at the bottom of the tub during his bath time. He also go to run free since the yard was fenced in. Needless to say he had a blast.

Dog Days

November 26, 2013. The day I became a puppy parent.
Long story short. I wanted a yorkie, but turns out they are very expensive. Then one day I stumbled upon an ad for a shorkie, a yorkie and shih tzu mix. I contacted the breeder and after one picture I knew I had found my dog. I really wanted a dog that looked like a star wars character and so...

He's a non stop playing machine, bundle of fur and he's all mine. We are currently taking puppy training classes so hopefully soon he'll be a well-behaved bundle of fur.

Strange Addictions

Why do I love photographing stumps so much?

Dat Grain

Grainy in two ways: focal point is the grains of sand, and then just a grainy image due to fog. I'm really pleased with this image, even if it tilts.

Forgot about this image, it was from a family trip on Memorial weekend. Tried for an artsy shot of the sunset in our boat's rear view mirror.

And just in case you thought I forgot about putting in funny things at the end of my posts, here is a great video to keep you entertained for 10 hours, yes. TEN HOURS. Enjoy.

Now excuse me while I forget to post for another few months. I will blame it on the half of a large pizza I ate all by myself today. Food coma forever.

Wint-hurr-hurr-hurr

Braved the snow for about 10 minutes to snap a few shots. It was about 7 degrees out with the windchill and even though I bundled up it was just too cold. My super stylish camo bib snow pants just weren't enough I guess...

[Turns out when you go from 7 degrees to 70 degrees your lens gets all foggy

and it actually looks pretty cool when you take pictures]

Rockin' DoF

I went on an adventure this past Sunday and ended up stopping at this little cherry farm with a store that also has an awesome garden labyrinth. I'd driven by the place before and always wondered what it was, then I saw an aerial photo, discovered how awesome it was and finally checked it out.

But I took some photos of a few different plants and flowers.

I am super happy with this picture. First off, I didn't have to do any editing to it. I tried a few different things, but I always just reset it back the original and was really pleased with it. Also I finally got depth of field right. I usually have my dof too small and have parts of the subject out of focus that I'd rather actually have in focus, but for once I didn't use the minimum aperture and got a nice picture.
